Can I paint the cabinets myself?

Yes, in principle you can spray or paint a Wastoren® cabinet. Do bear in mind that the cabinets have a high-grade factory finish. Painting or spraying over it can affect the look, the wear resistance and the maintenance of the surface.

Good preparation is essential for the best result. Clean and sand the surface according to the paint supplier's instructions, and use a suitable primer and topcoat for furniture panels.

Step by step: painting your cabinet

  • Degrease – clean the surface thoroughly with a degreaser before you sand. That way you do not sand grease and dirt into the material.

  • Sand – sand the surface lightly until it is matt, for good adhesion, and then remove all dust.

  • Prime – apply a good primer suitable for the material. A sound base coat gives the paint better adhesion.

  • Sand between coats – once the primer has dried, sand it lightly and remove the dust again.

  • Topcoat – finish with a good topcoat. Two thin coats give a cleaner, more durable result than one thick one.

What else should you watch out for?

  • Choose the right finish – a satin topcoat strikes a good balance between appearance and ease of maintenance.

  • Expect it to be more delicate – even after painting, the surface stays more prone to scratches than the original coating.

  • Take your time – allow several days for the drying times between coats, and wait until the paint has fully cured before using the cabinet.
